The 2020 World Butchers' Challenge: We're getting closer...
The meat industry is vibrant, challenging and, despite some people’s opinions, fast-paced at times. As a result, it’s fair to say that it takes a lot to really take me by surprise. But one thing that never ceases to amaze me is the rate at which the World Butchers’ Challenge is developing and the ever-growing interest I’m getting from across the globe. And so it happened, that on May 31 - the day the bidding deadline was set, I was inundated with messages from butchers asking if there was any news where the 2020 competition would be held. I knew there was interest, I knew there was excitement and I knew there was anticipation building but yet again, I was taken aback by how closely people are following this whole thing. And with every message received, the prouder I feel about what the global trade has created. Because it’s something pretty massive and very special.
But let’s cut to the chase.
We have received bids from three epic nations: São Paulo in Brazil, Paris in France and Sacramento in the grand ole’ United States of America. If you thought 2018 was big, wait until you see what’s on offer for 2020! We’re currently in the process of compiling the bids and working with each of these nations where more information is needed. Following this, we have a council meeting planned for later this month to determine just where the next battleground will sit.
So in summary, keep an eye on the calendar as we expect to have an announcement with you by the middle of July. And if you still haven’t heard from us by then, permission granted to overload me with messages once more…
