New countries join the World Champion Butcher Apprentice & Young Butcher Competition

Tri Wahyu, Indonesia - 2025 World Champion Young Butcher entrant

Tri Wahyu is making history as Indonesia’s first representative in the 2025 World Butchers’ Challenge, having entered into the World Champion Young Butcher competition. His journey in butchery began in 2016 when he joined PT Global Pratama Wijaya (GPW), one of Indonesia’s top meat importers and distributors. Starting as a meatroom runner, Tri quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the Head of Butchery in 2019. His passion didn’t stop there—he became a Certified Butcher Trainer in 2023, mentoring the next generation of butchers at Jakarta’s Butchery Training Centre (BTC).

Tri first heard about the World Butchers' Challenge from YouTube, where he was captivated by the amazing skills of butchers around the world. Inspired to take his own talents to the global stage, and with full support from GPW, Tri began his journey to represent Indonesia for the first time. He’s been preparing tirelessly, working with a variety of beef, lamb, and pork cuts to refine his skills. Tri is also collaborating with top culinary mentors to sharpen his techniques and creativity.

His training regimen involves perfecting his techniques, mastering presentation, and practicing under timed conditions to simulate the competition atmosphere. Tri’s dedication to his craft, attention to detail, and leadership continue to push the boundaries of butchery in Indonesia. We can’t wait to see him compete and showcase the incredible talent and passion that has defined his career.

Monika Remes, Czech Republic - Butcher Apprentice

Monika Remes, Czech Republic - 2025 World Champion Butcher Apprentice entrant

Monika Remes is breaking new ground as the first-ever Czech participant in the World Butchers’ Challenge, competing as a solo entrant in the World Champion Butcher Apprentice competition. Originally from the Czech Republic, Monika's journey into butchery took an unexpected turn. After spending five years in New Zealand, she became a qualified butcher just a few months ago. Her passion for the trade ignited during her time working in a slaughterhouse, where she began as a boner. When COVID-19 closed New Zealand’s borders, Monika took the opportunity to dive deeper into the butchery profession and earned her qualifications.

While working at PAK’nSAVE, Monika’s skill and determination led her to enter—and win—local butchery competitions. Though she had to leave New Zealand before participating in more competitions, a new door opened for her to represent the Czech Republic in Paris at the World Champion Butcher Apprentice competition.

With a background in civil engineering, Monika’s meticulous nature and problem-solving abilities serve her well in butchery. Outside of work, she expresses her creativity through sewing traditional Czech folklore clothing, blending her love for craft and heritage. Now, Monika is ready to take on the global stage, bringing her skills and passion for butchery to this prestigious event. Her participation is a proud milestone for Czech butchery and a chance to inspire future talent from her homeland.
